Can I use higher wattage globes in my aquarium lighting units?
We always get asked if you can change the T5 globes to ones that have a higher wattage, and the simple answer is NO. These units have been set up so that the electronic ballasts can handle the exact wattage of the globes provided. If you increase the wattage you will burn out the ballast making the unit inoperable and this wold not be covered by warranty. Whats the difference between HE, PL and HO lights ?
There are three Types of lights that we stock for different levels of fish keepers:
HE- This is High Efficiency lighting and is general purpose. Great for freshwater tanks and cichlids. These put out plenty of light to light up your tank but not enough to make your tank look like a planted jungle. These are mainly for non planted tank applications.
HO- High Output lights give off lots of wattage so these are for heavily planted tanks or Marine applications. Different spectrum's of globes are available for each application.
PL-Power Compacts give off lots of power but are limited in spectrum so these are for medium applications where you mights have some plants in a freshwater application.
If you have any questions on any of these units please don't hesitate to email us.
